There’s no shortage of fun, new Tableau Public projects to join in on. One of those projects that I’ve been meaning to get involved with but haven’t had to time is #SportsVizSunday A fun new initiative centered around…you guessed it…sports data. I’ve been wanting to join for a while and there’s no better time to start than now!
This month’s host is soccer data expert, Steve Fenn, and he’s given us quite the gamut of historical MLS data for us to play with. My idea, while I “follow” MLS I’m not much of an expert the game, was to do something quick, yet insightful and keep it pretty high-level.
So it’s pretty hard to live in Kansas City, follow sports and NOT see, read and hear a lot about our hometown team, Sporting Kansas City. It’s very hard to get a ticket to a home game at Children’s Mercy Park. They’re currently at over 100 consecutive sellouts. Thanks in part to their rabid season ticket holders.
This was the inspiration for my viz for this dataset. I wanted to visualize historical attendance over time and as it turns out, 2018 was the highest attended MLS season to date. Check it out!
